Society6 is Melasdesign’s most upscale and “artsy” shop for best quality art prints, home decor for living room (including throw blankets and floor pillows), bedroom (from comforters to curtains), and bath. Also find bags (like duffles and backpacks), and of course the usual offerings like mugs, tech (iPhone, iPad / Laptop Skins, and iPhone covers), all-over print shirts, stationery (note cards and notebooks), and stickers. New products are usually in the offing – so there’s often new art for sale online. This shop surpassed my other art merch shops last year as my big seller!
TIP: Society6 offers the best commission for the artist (that’s Susan!) of all Melasdesign art merch shops.
RedBubble is based out of the US and Australia, with an ever expanding product line. It’s a great outlet for original art online from Melasdesign. RB has excellent customer service, and offers fashion unique to their site (which I love designing!) – dresses, women’s and men’s tops, mini-skirts, scarves, and leggings. Beyond that, I love that the mugs come in three styles; traditional for standard and travel size, and an angled wall (like a big, modern tea cup) for tall mugs. Very spiffy! Get iPhone and Samsung Galaxy covers, and iPhone wallets, along with iPad and laptop sleeves and skins. Posters, art boards, and acrylic block art (4″ or 6″ square goodies) are offered along with traditional prints, metal prints (so fun with my colorful art!) the best framed art offerings, and tapestry. Don’t forget the best selection of stickers. Art for sale online in fashionable form.
TIP: RedBubble gives you the most bang for your buck. Not as many sales as S6, but you pay less to begin with.
CafePress is the oldest print-on-demand site of Melasdesign. It offers the widest variety of products per single design of the sites listed on this page. My merch offerings span t-shirts, mugs, throw pillows, magnets, buttons, posters, key chains, printed jewelry, stickers, drinking glasses, ornaments, stationery, and more. Click on the graphics above to see products offered. It’s art for sale online, with a bent towards text graphics and basic themes.
TIP: CafePress is especially broad in its product offerings – a lot of it was thought up for logo and promotional purposes. Not so much artsy as functional, but the designs I have posted there have a good host.
A real, walk-in, hands on shop. Not e-commerce.
Melasdesign is proud to offer original OOAK handmade felt vases, both as covered collectible mason jars for Valentine’s Day and colorful pillar vases for all year ’round, at artisan gift shop and florist extraordinaire Thomasyard.

Susan Phillips Hicks, trade name Melasdesign, is an Alexandria, Virginia (USA) artist. She has a BA degree with a concentration in textile design from James Madison University, originally spurred on by a Best in Show award for student art in high school (for a psychedelic mini-installation). After working in graphic design and pre-press fields in the late 90's, she revisited weaving and explored fledgling Adobe apps and 2D art. Her paintings and digital work were shown regionally in Williamsburg, and Richmond, and online offerings found homes as far away as Brazil. After moving to ALX in '09, she began felting under Renate Maile-Moskowitz and exhibited wet felting work at the Torpedo Factory's Art League Gallery. Later she offered pet portraiture, using a tablet app and stylus to draw with, queuing a massive stylistic change. In 2016, Susan started blogging and Melasdesign shops were opened in retail sites RedBubble and Society6. Her art for sale online found homes throughout the US to Canada, the UK, Central Europe, Australia, and New Zealand (even Finland! Yayyy Finland).
"I am an outsider artist at heart. I do what I have to do, because it oozes from my pores. If my work is chaotic, it's an honest insight into how my brain works. If it is pattern oriented, it is from years as a fiber artisan. All I ever want to do is bring a bit of joy about for viewers of my work. I am not going to follow "the rules" and join the hordes of lifeless artists I see usurping others' styles just to try to sell images. Do I miss the mark sometimes? Yes, but I do it knowing it's a step along the way. I must remain true to myself in a world where originality seems to be discouraged. I invite you to witness my journey." - SPH
Susan is an active fiber artist, making objects, clothing, and accessories through wet felting. Susan also lends her efforts to drawing, mainly representational, and painting, mainly abstract. Through this 2D art, she explores traditional subjects, abstract art, pet portaits (cats, dogs, and one mouse), current events, "dark" art, dreams, and Halloween. She is also building a collection of original jewelry designs using metal clay of fine silver, bronze and copper.
